Message from the Director

February 2025

Starting back in August, the Star Tribune has been publishing articles about Charter Schools in the state of Minnesota.  Unfortunately, this series, which has not concluded, has been showing Charter Schools in a negative light. I would like to take this opportunity to dispel some of the hate and misinformation that has been published.

Central Lakes Adventure School is NOT at risk of non-renewal by our Authorizer, Osprey Wilds.  Our corrective action plan, based on NWEA-MAP test results of the 2023-2024 school year, has been all but formally resolved with the implementation of changes at the school for the 2024-2025 school year.  Test scores have risen in Math by 43%, Reading by 43% and Science by 30%.

This information should serve to inform the public that Charter Schools are not only held to high standards of performance to be granted a contract renewal to operate by their authorizers and ultimately the state of Minnesota, but that we are also held accountable to create a plan of action that benefits the students we serve when we are unable to achieve our goals-the goals mutually agreed upon by the school and the authorizer.

I encourage you to reach out to the school if you have any other questions, we are more than happy to share any of the moving parts that make us work!

Thank you,

Sarah

Due to a lack of a quorum the January Board meeting will be rescheduled for a time to be announced.
