Google:
Central Lakes Adventure School uses Google Apps which includes: Gmail, Google Classroom, Google Docs, Google Slides, and Google Sheets. Students are given an email address, and can sign in to their email account and access other apps at mail.google.com.
Other Online Learning Tools:
To facilitate our Project Based Learning program, there are several programs that are used to manage student work, collect evidence of learning, and provide as many opportunities as possible to achieve proficiency in the MN State Academic Standards.
Headrush: This is a great tool for students and Advisors to build Projects from scratch. Students can propose their own projects, and Advisors can create and then lead groups through a Project. This collects the evidence of learning, and shows students progress toward their post secondary goals, and the ability to individually focus every student, and Advisor's, effort and energy.
Defined Learning: This pre-built Project Based Learning platform comes with ready-to-use Projects for grades K-12. The academic standards have been aligned, and it's a great resource when browsing by topic.
Defined Careers: The same provider as above, this part of the Defined suite helps students inventory their skills and abilities to discover which career clusters and pathways might be the right fit for their future. There are opportunities to explore the careers in-depth, and in some cases participate in Virtual Internships. This is also linked to Common App to make applying for programs, trade schools, colleges and universities around the country easy.
Khan Academy: Khan Academy is used to prescribe a specific course of study for each student. This is yet another way to tailor coursework to fit the academic needs for each student.
This collection of tools is very powerful and will help students learn necessary skills for our connected world. If you have any questions about these programs and what they are used for, please contact us at 218-746-3875. You can also see our Internet Safety/Acceptable Use Policy that students sign when they enroll and family safety information about Google learning tools can be found here.
Testing:
Students take the state mandated MCA tests in the spring and NWEA growth tests in the fall, winter, and spring each year. Testing dates can be found here. In addition, below are links to helpful resources to prepare for testing:
